The Ohio Cattlemen's Association recently signed a letter to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue, alongside other Ohio agricultural organizations, requesting clear guidance on long-term assistance plans intended to aide farmers and short term solutions that may provide relief.
Due to harsh weather conditions over the past several months, Ohio farmers have not only experienced short-term planting struggles, but are also facing an emerging livestock feed crisis. A solution to address the livestock feed and environmental challenges is that many of those prevented plant crop acres could be planted to forages for harvest, however this would require administrative action.
The letter asks for the following provisions to be made immediately:
As this is a time-sensitive issue, the letter called for swift action by the USDA and Secretary Perdue concerning this requested one-time allowance.
