OBYC Stockmanship Program

The Stockmanship program provides youth participants, with or without cattle, the opportunity to showcase their talent outside of the show ring by expanding their knowledge of cattle and the industry. It is open to all Ohio youth regardless of if they show cattle during the BEST show season. The Stockmanship division is comprised of beef industry-focused educational competitions that are held within the Ohio Beef Youth Council.

Registration deadline for each contest will be 2 weeks prior to the contest date. **THERE WILL BE NO LATE ENTERIES ACCEPTED**

2025-2026 Stockmanship Contests 

• Meats Contest - Saturday, January 24, 2026 
• Prepared Speaking - Saturday, February 21, 2026
• Judging Contest - held at the Ohio Beef Expo, Columbus - Thursday March 19, 2026
• Skill-a-thon - Saturday, April 18, 2026
• Salesmanship - Saturday, April 18, 2026

Stockmanship contests will require separate registration for each event, with top-placing awards presented at each individual contest. Please note that both individual and team awards for qualifying events will be distributed at the time of the contest. Overall Stockmanship awards will be presented at the new Youth Recognition Banquet in June 2026. The top five individuals in each of the following divisions will be recognized: Beginner, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Age divisions can be found in the rule book linked below. To qualify for the year-end Stockmanship awards, participants must complete at least two contests. There will be an entry fee per contest; however, if the participant’s family holds a current OCA membership in good standing, registration will be free for all contests.
