BEST is a youth development program of the OCA that recognizes young beef exhibitors through a series of sanctioned shows. Youth who participate earn points for their placing at each show. Points are tabulated for cattle, showmanship, registered bred-and-owned animals, and Buckeye Breeder Series (Ohio’s bred, born and raised program). The BEST program also includes leadership opportunities, scholarships and community service. Youth exhibitors earn points for participation in each sanctioned show and are recognized for their accomplishments at an end-of-season awards banquet.
With guidance from a new, expanded BEST committee, the program will renew its focus on creating meaningful family experiences during BEST show weekends. The eight BEST Junior Representatives will take on stronger mentoring roles for youth who are new to the program. They will also assist sanctioned shows by working the ring and increasing their visibility as they build leadership skills. In addition, program staff will work with sponsoring partners to offer new educational opportunities at designated shows.
The BEST Committee looks forward to sharing its complete list of sponsoring partners for the new season as well as the list of BEST Boosters for 2026-2027. At the same time, the Committee will also share any rule changes and highlights for the coming year.
